Mechanical/Electrical Engineer (M/E/P)

We are looking for a design engineer (likely Architectural Engineer) with experience successfully delivering a broad range facility-focused projects, and particularly with expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design. In addition to standalone MEP projects, said individual would support design of facility projects firmwide. These facilities will typically be for municipal, commercial, and industrial clientele. In this role you will contribute to a collaborative team environment. The desired candidate will supplement design, production, and quality control efforts for Benesch’s facility team, focusing on MEP responsibilities. These responsibilities will include the design and analysis of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, electrical systems, and plumbing systems in various types of facilities.


This position will be based out of any of our Kansas/Missouri offices. This includes Kansas City, KS, Topeka, KS, Wichita, KS, Manhattan, KS, Lenexa, KS, or Kansas City, MO.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Perform heating, ventilation, and air conditioning load calculations and prepare related designs
  • Perform plumbing calculation and prepare the design of hot and cold-water systems, and waste and vent systems
  • Perform electrical calculations and prepare the design of building electrical systems
  • Design interior and exterior lighting with the use of photometrics
  • Perform field investigations related to the design and/or assessment of existing MEP systems
  • Perform studies and prepare reports related to the condition assessments of MEP systems
  • Assist with plan production, prepare specifications, and calculate construction cost estimates related to the design and construction of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Contribute to project goals and milestones and monitor project progress
  • Ensure the development of high-quality engineering documents
  • Adhere to all internal procedures for quality control, documentation, and project tracking
  • Assist with project pursuits, including the interaction with clients
 What You Will Need
  • Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering or related discipline required
  • Minimum of 2 years of applicable design experience required.  4+years of MEP design experience preferred
  • PE License or ability to become licensed in near future preferred
  • A history of progressive responsibility in MEP design including:
    • Experience with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning load calculating software such as CHVAC, Trane Trace or similar programs
    • Experience with plan production software including AutoCAD
    • Experience in working with photometrics software and lighting design
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • A track-record for adhering to design budgets and schedules
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize, work on, and advance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with the plan production related to MEP projects
  • Experience using MasterSpec or similar software to develop written specifications, including both front end documents and technical specifications sections
  • A desire to learn and strengthen skills
  • Familiarity with, and understand, current industry building-related codes and standards
