Technical Writer Intern
Benesch is looking for a talented and detail-oriented Technical Writer Intern to join our Railroad User Support team. This role will play a critical part in supporting our railroad clients by developing comprehensive user guides and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the software solutions we provide. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technical writing and an interest in the Civil Engineering industry, with the ability to distill complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation. There is potential for this role to assist with desk help tickets and provide hands-on support to our clients.
Location
This position offers a work-from-home schedule with the flexibility to work from the following offices that host a Railroad-team: Omaha, NE; Cincinnati, OH; Chicago, IL; and Jacksonville, FL. This allows you to benefit from mentorship by professionals in the office during your internship at Benesch!
Benesch’s Railroad Division is made up of highly skilled rail professionals, many of whom are former employees of operating railroads. This firsthand experience working on designing and maintaining active rail systems uniquely equips our team to develop innovative solutions to a wide variety of rail projects.
The Impact You Will Have
- Collaborate with Benesch's Railroad User Support team to create, write, and publish detailed user guides and SOPs tailored to the needs of our railroad clients.
- Work closely with software developers, engineers, and user support specialists to gather information and ensure the accuracy and usability of documentation.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with Benesch’s standards and effectively supports our clients’ operations.
- Provide assistance with desk help tickets, offering user support and troubleshooting as needed to maintain smooth operations for our railroad clients.
- Continuously update and refine documentation as software features and client needs evolve.
What You Will Need
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science or a related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills with an emphasis on clarity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with creating technical documentation, user guides, and SOPs, especially in a technical or engineering context.
- Basic understanding of software applications and user support processes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a team-oriented mindset.
- Interest or experience in the railroad industry or civil engineering is a plus.
