Mecklenburg County

Briar Creek Greenway

Charlotte, NC

The new mile-long Briar Creek greenway in Mecklenburg County provides a valuable link between Eastover Park and Mint Museum while protecting the adjacent Catawba Lands Conservancy-preserved hardwood forest. The greenway was constructed in conjunction with a separate stream restoration project.

The paved greenway features a pedestrian bridge spanning 80’ over Briar Creek. The steel frame bridge was supported by poured in place concrete abutments on each end of the bridge, and steel piles were used to support the abutments. Due to close proximity of one abutment to an existing 36” Charlotte Water sewer outfall, careful monitoring was required during construction.

Benesch served as a subconsultant responsible for construction documents, greenway easement documentation, permitting, and construction administration services.
