Benesch partnered with the Colorado Department of Transportation and the City of Lone Tree to oversee emergency repairs due to a truck colliding with the south girder that resulted in extensive damage. The project involved removing and replacing the damaged girder and associated deck, barrier wall, sidewalk, pavement and lighting. Benesch provided daily inspection and construction management, measured pay item quantities, reviewed pay applications and provided coordination between stakeholders.
Working through a fast-track, emergency bid process between the client agency and the Colorado Department of Transportation, Benesch successfully bid the project in less than three weeks. Along with pricing, the contractors bids were required to provide shoring and phasing plans indicating any proprietary materials or processes which they would propose to use. This “value engineering bid” approach allowed the multi-agency bid selection team to compare and contrast each bidders pricing, as well as test their knowledge of the problem and innovative approach to implementing a solution.
