This design-build project included the construction of a single-lane, modern roundabout at the intersection of SR 44 and Grand Avenue in DeLand, FL. This project was controversial in nature, as local opinion did not favor the construction of a roundabout over a traditional traffic signal.
Overcoming the negative stigma surrounding construction of this roundabout presented a major obstacle to the Public Involvement team. Through a community educational campaign and listening to concerns and opinions, the Public Involvement team was able to positively affect a change of opinion and create a welcomed safety feature to the community.
