Project Manager - Railroad Track Design 

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Railroad Engineering team, overseeing track design services. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in rail design and a proven ability to lead design teams and engage with clients. In this role, you will manage rail projects both locally and across the country, handling all phases of phase 1 and 2 design work. As a seller/doer, you’ll be responsible for resource planning, client engagement, business development, and preparing proposals.

Benesch’s Railroad Division is made up of highly skilled rail professionals, many of whom are former employees of operating railroads. This firsthand experience working on designing and maintaining active rail systems uniquely equips our team to develop innovative solutions to a wide variety of rail projects.

Location

 This position offers a hybrid work schedule in the following locations host a Railroad-Track team and focus on Railroad-Track business development: Omaha, NE; Milwaukee, WI; Chicago, IL; Naperville, IL; Charlotte, NC; and Raleigh, NC. For those with the requisite experience, the flexibility to work from any of our Benesch locations is available.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Lead and manage rail projects from planning through design into construction.
  • Develop the project scope, budget, and schedule and lead client contract negotiations.
  • Work with and guide technical engineering staff ranging from junior to senior level.
  • Assist and execute technical tasks, including developing technical reports, designs, specifications, and project-related presentations.
  • Work closely with other project managers and group leads within the Rail Division to plan resources and manage internal workshare.
  • Assist and lead in developing client capture plans and pursuing win plans, proposals, and other business development and client engagement activities.
  • Meet with the client and public stakeholders and perform site visits in the field as necessary.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years’ experience in design and/or planning Railroad projects.  
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering degree and are a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E) 
  • Experience using MicroStation and Inroads, preferably with Open Roads Designer.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in other related project elements, such as Big Data Processing, GIS/ERSI, Drainage Design, Stormwater Permitting, and/or Site Utility (Sewer, Water, Natural Gas, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and desire to work closely with clients and stakeholders outside of technical engineering teams.
  • Desire to work on large multi-disciplinary rail projects that require creative thinking and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel out-of-town to meet project demands  #LI-MM1

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the State of Illinois Pay Transparency Act, Illinois Pay Transparency Law. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on numerous factors, including but not limited to individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary, overtime, and bonuses.
