BOSTON, MA—Benesch is proud to announce that Massachusetts Division Manager Ed Baumann, PE, VMA has been recognized by the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section (BSCES) with the 2026 Engineer of the Year Award. Additionally, Baumann and the William Felton “Bill” Russell Bridge project team received the 2026 Charles A. Stone and Edwin S. Webster Project of the Year Award.

The Engineer of the Year Award recognizes a BSCES member with at least 15 years of professional experience who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, technical excellence, professional integrity and mentorship.

Baumann has been with Benesch for more than 30 years and currently serves as the Massachusetts Division Manager. As an accomplished structural engineer and project manager, he has led the design, inspection and load rating of bridge structures throughout Massachusetts for clients including MassDOT, Massport, the MBTA, the City of Boston and numerous municipalities throughout the state.

The Project of the Year Award honors a BSCES member and project team that played a major role in delivering an innovative, challenging or complex project in Massachusetts.

Benesch provided comprehensive engineering services for the Bill Russell Bridge, which replaced the aging North Washington Street bridge with a modern crossing featuring Complete Streets accommodations for motorists, transit users, bicyclists and pedestrians, along with signature architectural elements that have established the bridge as a landmark along the Charles River. As Deputy Project Manager and Lead Structural Engineer for the Bill Russell Bridge replacement project, Baumann helped guide the transformation of this critical transportation link connecting Downtown Boston and Charlestown.

Together, these awards recognize Baumann’s longstanding contributions to the engineering profession and the successful delivery of a transformative infrastructure project that will serve the Boston region for years to come.
