Amelia Harris Named WTS Pittsburgh’s Member of the Year
PITTSBURGH, PA—Benesch’s Amelia Harris, PhD, PE, has been named WTS Pittsburgh’s 2024 Member of the Year, recognizing her significant contributions to advancing women in the transportation industry. During her eight years of involvement with the Pittsburgh Chapter, Amelia has played a key role in supporting the organization’s mission of promoting the professional development of women in the field.
Reflecting on her experience as a member of WTS, Amelia said, “This organization has provided me with a strong support system and a great community in Pittsburgh. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills, which have helped me grow in my role at Benesch.”
Currently serving as Treasurer of the Pittsburgh Chapter, Amelia oversees the chapter’s financial operations and supports the efforts of various committees and chapter events. She encourages committees to organize unique events that set WTS apart from other professional organizations.
In addition to her responsibilities as Treasurer, Amelia is an active member of the chapter’s scholarship committee, which awards scholarships to women in Pennsylvania who are pursuing careers in transportation. She is passionate about supporting the next generation of professionals and encourages undergraduate students to apply.
Looking ahead, Amelia is focused on growing the chapter’s membership. “I stay motivated by bringing new people into this great community,” she explained. She remains dedicated to increasing diversity within the organization and ensuring WTS Pittsburgh continues to be a welcoming space for professionals in the transportation industry.
Amelia received the Member of the Year award on October 24 during the 2024 WTS Pittsburgh Recognition Awards, held at PNC Park.
