CHICAGO, IL – Benesch Designer and University of Illinois alumni Amber DeCarlo has been selected to serve on the Leadership Team for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Young Engineers Division (YED). As a member of the YED Leadership Team, Amber will work to create opportunities for young professionals to grow their networks and enhance their skills.

Amber first got involved with the YED through their mentorship program. In her new role, Amber sees an opportunity to pass on the knowledge and support she received to those who are coming up through the university now.

“My mentor has been so helpful and encouraging as I’ve navigated the early years of my career, and this leadership role will enable me to create similar experiences for current and future alumni,” Amber said.

The YED strives to establish ongoing relationships between the Alumni Association, the department and recent graduates through networking opportunities and assistance with professional development. Amber aspires to create meaningful connections with fellow board members, leveraging each other’s strengths to build on the work of previous YED leaders. As co-chair of the networking committee, she will assist in organizing unique educational events where young professionals can connect with fellow alumni.

“Through the various student organizations, career fairs and life-long friends I’ve made, the UIUC CEE department has helped shape me into the person I am today,” said Amber. “I’m really excited for this opportunity to return the favor—to ensure that new YED members get to have the same opportunities that I benefited from.”

Amber joined Benesch in 2021 as a structural designer following her participation in the company’s summer internship program. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus in structures from UIUC.
