Director of Alternative Delivery
We are looking for a licensed Professional Engineer with at least 15 years of procuring and managing the execution of moderately to significantly complex infrastructure improvement projects. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in the entire project development and execution cycle of Alternative Delivery assignments including Design/ Build, CMGC, P3, and Progressive Design Build projects.
The successful candidate will possess solid business development and relationship building expertise within the heavy/highway construction field with construction firms, subcontractors, owners and other consulting firms who are experienced in the following key heavy civil market sectors: highways/bridges, heavy rail and transit.
Areas of Responsibilities Include:
- Lead Benesch’s Alternative Delivery along with members of our executive team, design professionals, project managers and marketing specialists in the pursuit and execution of major infrastructure projects.
- Works closely with the Chief Growth Officer, Regional and Division Managers to leverage existing relationships with builders, designers, and owners to facilitate project wins.
- Lead the development of innovative (technical and non-technical) win strategies in the pursuit of new alternative delivery projects.
- Draw upon existing industry relationships and establish new ones to develop strategic partnerships for future pursuits.
- Utilize strong industry relationships to discover and track the progress of future pursuits.
- Identify internal and external resources needed for specific alternative delivery project pursuits, including design managers, technical specialists and key subconsultants.
- Negotiate teaming agreements and design subcontracts with other engineering and contracting partners.
- Facilitate work planning activities, oversee pre-award fee development, profitability analysis, cash management, quality management, and risk/change management.
- Collaborate with Regional and Division Managers who direct, oversee, and ensure profitability, quality deliverables, and risk/change management.
- Monitor the project delivery team members (both internal and external partners) to ensure design deliverables are completed on schedule and facilitate engagement when delivery issues arise.
- Contribute strong technical content, including innovative approaches, risk mitigation strategies, and technical write-ups, in the preparation of the firm’s responses to RFQs and proposals.
- Represent Benesch in a lead role in all key alternative delivery interviews and client meetings.
- Serve as Project Executive for CM/GC and design-build projects of all sizes and all market areas within the heavy civil design and construction industry.
- Assist clients with on-going Alternative Delivery strategies.
- Collaborate with clients or prime consultant partners, during both preconstruction services and construction services to ensure that Benesch’s delivery of project scopes, decisions, budgets, and timeline deliverables meet or exceed the project goals.
- Identify opportunities well in advance of advertisement to provide sufficient time to vet teaming partners and conduct the necessary risk assessment of those partners and the opportunities to avoid any potential financial, contractual or insurance risks associated with the pursuit.
- Perform as a strong partner who creates cohesion among a variety of personnel who make up Alternative Delivery project teams and stakeholder groups.
- Serve as a Project Executive, who participates in meetings with the design and construction teams to help develop innovative, cost saving solutions in response to project constraints that also incorporate numerous scenarios involving risk, schedule, optimized contract packaging, and Alternative Technical Concepts (ATC’s).
- Demonstrate a proven record of effectively directing multiple concurrent projects and pursuits.
Requirements:
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Construction Management or Civil Engineering degree from an accredited four-year university
- Established relationships within the Alternative Delivery space
- Exceptional technical writing skills with particular emphasis on qualifications and technical approach presentations
- Experienced with project and contract risk identification, mitigation, and management on heavy civil construction projects
- Superior verbal communication and presentation skills
- Problem-solver with the ability to lead effective teams, manage challenging circumstances and meet aggressive deadlines
- Demonstrated experience leading teams through winning pursuits
