July 24, 2019 – CHICAGO, IL – Alfred Benesch & Company (Benesch) is pleased to announce that Kevin Fitzpatrick, PE has been selected to serve as the next President and CEO. He will assume the role in September of 2020.
Kevin is currently an Executive Vice President and serves as the company’s Great Lakes Regional Manager, overseeing operations and business development for the Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Railroad Divisions. Kevin has played an integral role in shaping Benesch throughout his tenure with the company. Early in his career he was an important part of Benesch’s Illinois Construction Group, managing projects such as the $250 million Wacker Drive Reconstruction. He grew into a role managing this team and helped establish Benesch as a go-to CM consultant for the City of Chicago, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Tollway. From there, he was tapped to lead the Illinois Division and successfully held that role for six years. It was in 2015 when he assumed the role of Great Lakes Regional Manager and he has also been on the company’s Board of Directors for the last nine years.
Kevin is actively involved in several organizations including the American Council of Engineering Companies and the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association. He is also one of a select few Purdue graduates to be awarded their prestigious Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Award.
“I am thrilled to pass the torch to Kevin. I have worked alongside him for many years and have full confidence in his leadership and vision for the company”, says John Carrato, PE, SE, current President and CEO. Carrato has held the role since 2009 and has long planned to step down in 2020 to create opportunity for others within the organization.
Under the firm’s current leadership, Benesch has experienced significant growth, diversified its services and more than quadrupled its geographic footprint. In 2009, Benesch had 210 employees in four states. Today the company has over 700 employees, offices in 17 states and provides engineering, landscape architecture and professional services across the U.S.
Kevin will work alongside John to transition into the role, assuming the responsibilities of President and CEO officially in September of 2020. Carrato will remain with the company in a different capacity.
