The I-74 Corridor over the Mississippi River Receives National Recognition
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The I-74 Corridor over the Mississippi River has earned national recognition from the American Council of Civil Engineering. At their 2023 Engineering Excellence Awards held in Washington, D.C., the organization presented the $1 billion interstate corridor improvement project with one of eight Grand Awards.
“So many people at Benesch dedicated tremendous amounts of their time and energy into bringing the I-74 corridor to life,” said Illinois Division Manager Andrew Keaschall. “For that work to be recognized nationally is such an honor for our team and everyone involved in the project.”
Benesch served as corridor-wide design manager and engineer of record for many portions of the corridor on behalf of the Iowa and Illinois DOTs. This project included a new Mississippi River crossing with an 800-foot navigation span, reconstruction and widening of 8-miles of interstate highway, improvements to six existing service interchanges, enhancements to the connecting arterial roadway system, and improvements to the bicycle/pedestrian and intermodal connections.
Earlier this year, the project was named the winner of the American Council of Civil Engineering of Illinois’ highest honor – the Lincoln’s Grand Conceptor Award, qualifying it to receive this national award.
