Laura McGovern Named Chair Elect of ACEC-IL Board

CHICAGO, IL—Benesch Chief Process and Innovation Officer Laura McGovern, PE, has been named Chair Elect of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL) Board of Directors. Following her term as Chair Elect, she will step into the role of Board Chair—continuing her long-standing leadership within ACEC-IL and the broader engineering community.
Laura first became a member of ACEC-IL in 1996, when she began contributing to various committees including Public Transit, Awards and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. In 2006, she joined the Chicago Agencies Liaison Committee and later served as its Chair from 2010 to 2013. Over the years, she has held several leadership roles within the organization, including Director, Chair of the Innovations Committee, Vice Board Chair and Secretary. She currently serves as Executive Liaison and Senior Sponsor for the ACEC-IL e-squared initiative, which promotes awareness of the engineering profession among students.
As Chair Elect, Laura will serve on the Executive Committee, working closely with the current Chair and CEO to lead key agency meetings and government advocacy meetings with legislators. She will also serve on the Planning Cabinet and Strategic Planning Committee, where she looks forward to playing an integral role in refreshing the organization’s strategic plan.
Looking ahead, Laura plans to focus on advancing technology-focused thought leadership within the engineering sector, strengthening the organization’s committee structures and processes, and exploring opportunities to integrate ACEC-IL’s operations with other industry organizations. She will also begin planning the agenda for her upcoming term as Board Chair.
