Chris Snyder Named Honorable Ray LaHood Man of the Year by WTS Chicago

CHICAGO, IL— Benesch Senior Project Manager Chris Snyder has received the 2024 Honorable Ray LaHood Man of the Year Award from the WTS Greater Chicago Chapter. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding contributions to the transportation industry, with a particular dedication to advancing women in the field.
Chris’ career in transportation planning and engineering spans more than 36 years in the public sector. As a leader at multiple agencies, Chris has devoted significant time and energy to fostering inclusive work environments that support the professional advancement of women in transportation.
“I began my career at a time when there were very few women in our industry,” Chris reflected. “As time has gone on, I’ve been honored to know and work alongside so many successful women and to have had the opportunity to support their growth, as so many of them have supported mine!”
At IDOT, Chris played a crucial role in creating opportunities for women through training and career development programs, as well as advocating for flexible work arrangements for women starting families. Similarly, his efforts at DuPage County DOT led to significant organizational changes that positioned women in leadership roles and empowered them to be decision-makers.
Chris joined Benesch’s Illinois Division in early 2024 as part of the Planning and Preliminary Engineering Group, which is led by Jill Hayes.
“Chris has been a fantastic addition to Benesch, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team,” said Jill. “His passion for the industry is contagious and his leadership is genuine. I’m excited to see a new group of Benesch engineers flourish under his mentoring and thrilled to celebrate this honor with him and his family.”
Chris accepted the award at the 2024 Awards Banquet on April 25, with his nomination also advancing to WTS International for potential international recognition.
At the event, Chris noted, “No other award or recognition I’ve received has meant more than this. To be thought of by your colleagues as someone worthy for the nomination and then to be selected is truly an honor.”
