E-470 Corridor Expansion Continues with New Segment Complete

DENVER, CO—The E-470 Road Widening Project recently reached a significant milestone with the completion of all major civil work between I-70 and 104th Avenue. All designed travel lanes are now open to traffic along this 11-mile stretch of toll road, which serves the eastern Denver metropolitan area.
To improve mobility and reduce congestion, the project added a third travel lane in each direction. A new four-mile extension of the High Plains Trail was also completed, featuring a 10-foot-wide concrete multi-use path that enhances connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians. Additional improvements along the corridor include two new interchanges, the expansion of an existing interchange, a widened bridge over E-470, a new collector road, wildlife fencing and a newly paved asphalt surface. Benesch provided construction management services for the project.
This milestone marks another step in E-470’s ongoing effort to expand capacity along its 47-mile corridor in response to population growth in the region. Benesch also provided construction management services for a previous segment between Quincy Avenue and I-70, which added a third lane in each direction and extended the High Plains Trail by six miles.
In April, the project won the 2024 “Best in Colorado” Project Delivery Award from the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association, recognizing the project’s quality, efficiency, innovation, safety and cost management. Click here to learn more about the award.
