E-470 Widening Project Earns CAPA’s 2025 “Best in Colorado” Project Delivery Award
AURORA, CO—The northern segment of the E-470 Widening Project (I-70 to 104th Avenue) has received the 2025 “Best in Colorado” Project Delivery Award from the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA), marking the second consecutive year the corridor expansion project has earned this distinction.
While the southern segment of the project (Package A: I-70 to 56th Avenue) earned this recognition last year, this year’s award specifically honors Packages B, C & D (56th Avenue to 104th Avenue), which comprise the northern portion of the 11-mile corridor expansion.
The overall $302 million project added a third lane in both directions along E-470 between I-70 and 104th Avenue. The CMGC contract model was used to accelerate construction phases and reduce impacts, enhancing overall efficiency. Benesch provided construction management, inspection and materials testing services for the project.
The $172 million northern segment was specifically recognized for its outstanding asphalt paving, which included 230,000 tons of hot mix asphalt (HMA) and stone matrix asphalt (SMA). The project scope also included grading and drainage improvements, an SMA overlay on existing pavement, modifications to Toll Plaza D, widened bridges and a new auxiliary lane bridge and ramp at Peña Boulevard.
All major civil work across both segments was completed in July 2025, advancing E-470’s long-term efforts to expand capacity along its 47-mile corridor. Benesch previously provided construction management services for an earlier segment of E-470 between Quincy Avenue and I-70.
Members of the project team were presented with the award on February 12 at CAPA’s annual “Best in Colorado” Asphalt Awards Dinner, underscoring the project’s continued recognition for high-quality pavement construction and collaborative delivery.
