Laura McGovern Selected for Crain’s Chicago Notable Women in STEM List
CHICAGO, IL – Crain’s Chicago Business, a premier business publication, has named Laura McGovern to the 2023 Notable Women in STEM list. The list honors Chicago-area women for their work in the science, technology, engineering and math fields. Laura has been dedicated to the engineering industry for nearly 40 years and currently serves as Chief Process and Innovation Officer at Benesch.
“When I began my career, it was still fairly rare for women to enter the field of engineering. To now be recognized as a notable woman in STEM along with these other incredible women is a true honor,” said Laura.
In selecting the honorees, Crain’s sought to feature women who have used their skills to advance their organization and/or assumed a leadership position outside her organization. At Benesch, Laura leads firm-wide efforts to optimize processes to keep Benesch at the forefront of industry trends and innovation. From technology initiatives and project management to company knowledge sharing, she is focused on identifying ways to improve the processes that help Benesch deliver success for clients.
Outside of her work at Benesch, Laura is dedicated to nurturing young STEM talent. As a leader of the Illinois MATHCOUNTS Program, a national competition for middle school students, she organizes the yearly statewide tournament with schools from across Illinois. Laura also connects students with engineers and firms during the competition to encourage them to pursue STEM curriculum as they head to high school.
Additionally, Laura serves as a member of the Executive Committee for the American Council of Engineering Companies-Illinois (ACEC-IL) and the Board of Directors for the Illinois Engineering Initiative (IEI), a foundation that works to build and retain engineering talent in Illinois. Laura was nominated for this honor by ACEC-IL President Kevin Artl.
