Lincoln South Beltway Recognized by Roads & Bridges
LINCOLN, NE — The Lincoln South Beltway has landed at spot #2 on Roads & Bridges’ Top Ten Roads list for 2023.
Opened to traffic in December of 2022, the $352-million beltway provides a new east-west connection between US Highway 77 and Nebraska Highway 2. Designed to improve safety and help transform the region, the project has significantly improved traffic flow within Lincoln’s urban street system, as well as regional and interstate connectivity.
Benesch was the prime consultant for the project on behalf of the Nebraska Department of Transportation. The firm has been involved with the project since the mid-1990s, leading design efforts as well as all environmental permitting required for the corridor’s construction.
The Beltway is Nebraska’s largest transportation initiative to date, featuring two system interchanges, three service interchanges, 43 miles of roadway, 23 bridges and 11 roundabouts.
