Currituck Community Park

Currituck, NC

Currituck Community Park is a new 637-acre multi-use campus which serves to help stimulate the regional economy by providing opportunities for commercial, educational, and a diverse range of recreational sports and activities. The County has systematically invested 40 million dollars to create a shovel ready commerce park that attracts businesses to the Outer banks Region of North Carolina.

Benesch assisted the County with planning, design, and construction administration services for Currituck Community Park. Initial scope of services included public engagement, stakeholder facilitation, budgeting/cost estimating and master planning. Subsequent phases included applying for and successfully obtaining grants, construction documents, permitting, bidding, and construction administration services for all recreation improvements for the campus.

The development and re-development of this land offered many complex challenges with respect to soils and environmental concerns. The construction team, including the owner, the contractor and the Benesch, worked closely to keep the project within budget and on schedule.

Currituck Community Park offers participants access and a host of recreational facilities to enjoy. The park has miles of walking trails, a signature skate park, a unique hi-ropes/challenge course, large fully accessible playground, several picnic shelters, and a six tournament quality sports fields for soccer, lacrosse, baseball, softball. The park is adjacent to the Currituck County Regional Airport, the local YMCA, the County’s Agricultural Extension Service, Central Elementary School, and other county service facilities. The synergy created by the park, with the sports and recreational opportunities at the hub is attracting a variety of new and prospective tenants in the commercial campus. Future tenants may include a fire station, forestry service, animal shelter, public safety center, bus garage, wastewater treatment facility, and manufacturing facilities.
