Pulaski Road / Crawford Avenue
Benesch is completing a Phase I preliminary engineering study for improvement of Pulaski Road/Crawford Avenue from 159th Street to 127th Street in Cook County. The project is evaluating alternatives for four miles of suburban arterial roadway including replacement of a 300-foot steel truss structure over the Cal-Sag Channel, intersection improvements, drainage improvements and Complete Street improvements including new sidewalks and bicycle facilities.
Benesch is responsible for environmental, traffic, roadway and structural studies required to obtain Phase I approval. The project involves a robust public outreach process which includes a Corridor Advisory Committee consisting of five south-suburban municipalities, Cook County Forest Preserve District, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, Illinois Tollway and local school districts.
The bridge over the Cal-Sag Channel has been identified as a historic resource, and Benesch is leading the 4(f)/106 coordination process for determining improvement alternatives which can be approved by the FHWA.
The project also crosses multiple state routes including Strategic Regional Arterials. Benesch is leading the design, analysis and coordination with IDOT for intersection improvements.
