WASHINGTON, D.C. – Benesch Structural Group Manager Ihab Darwish has been appointed to the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) project panel 12-131 – Live Load Distribution Factors for Straight Steel I-Girder Bridges. As a member of the panel, Ihab will collaborate with other experts from around the country to research potential revisions to AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.

The NCHRP is supported by funds from participating member states of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), with the full cooperation and support of the Federal Highway Administration. This research program provides practical and timely solutions to problems facing highway and transportation practitioners and administrators.

Ihab will bring extensive technical expertise to the panel with his background in structures, including finite element modeling, analysis and design of bridges and accelerated bridge construction. Ihab joined Benesch in 2000 and currently serves as a Structural Group Manager in our Michigan Division. Throughout his 31-year career, he has served as project manager on several complex bridge assignments, bringing knowledge in each stage of design and construction.

The panel will gather in October to begin their work. Learn more about project 12-131 here.
