Kyle Herring Appointed to ASCE National Committee on Professional Advancement
WILMINGTON, NC—Benesch Project Manager Kyle Herring, PE has been appointed as a voting member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) National Committee on Professional Advancement (CPA). Throughout his three-year term, Kyle will help guide initiatives across three constituent committees by providing feedback, supporting collaborative efforts and voting on actions that help advance the civil engineering profession. Currently, ASCE is in the process of restructuring its committees and Kyle is excited to be a part of this new change and continuing to serve.
Kyle’s involvement with ASCE began seven years ago through volunteer work with the North Carolina Coastal Branch, where he helped mentor students participating in the 2+2 Engineering Partnership Program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. At the time, UNC Wilmington did not offer an ABET-accredited engineering degree, so students completed their first two years at the university before transferring to North Carolina State University to finish their degree. Kyle participated in this program during his academic career, and his experience navigating the transition between institutions motivated him to support students facing similar challenges.
Since then, Kyle has remained involved in ASCE at the local level. He served on the North Carolina Coastal Branch board as Secretary and is currently completing his second term as Vice President. In this role, he helps coordinate continuing education programming for local engineers and works with sponsors to support the branch’s scholarship fund, which awards annual scholarships to students in the 2+2 Engineering Partnership Program.
“My involvement with ASCE has helped make me a better engineer,” said Kyle. “It has helped me build a network of support, develop my skills, learn unique perspectives from others, and most importantly, give back to other professionals in our industry.”
As a member of the CPA, Kyle looks forward to giving back to the profession and supporting the development of future engineers. He emphasizes the importance of mentorship, collaboration and shared responsibility in strengthening the civil engineering community and ensuring its long-term success.
