12th Avenue North Corridor
The 12th Avenue North corridor from 45th Street to County Road 19 was a two-lane rural roadway. Selected by the Metro Council of Governments, this was the first local project completed as a consolidated planning study/environmental document (Documented CatEx)/design project.
Benesch was selected to complete the project from the planning elements to the final design and bid plans. The project involved reconstructing 2.6 miles of 12th Avenue North to a concrete three-lane urban section with curb and gutter, sidewalk, shared-use path, storm sewer and city utility improvements. Additionally, the project included the design of a single-lane roundabout to reduce crashes at the highest crash location in West Fargo.
Benesch provided traffic operations analysis, preliminary engineering of the 9th street roundabout, preliminary engineering of CR 17 and CR 19 improvements, the preparation of technical memorandums, final design and plan/bid document preparation. The project also involved significant public involvement and local stakeholder coordination.
