Kiwanis Family Park
Benesch worked with the City of Sanford to develop a Comprehensive Park and Recreation Master Plan that identified the desires of community residents, including the need to improve existing parks in the City. Kiwanis Family Park was identified as one of the existing parks that needed improvements, which included a splash pad, ADA-compliant restrooms, picnic shelters, a new inclusive playground, expanded parking areas, improved circulation and walking paths.
To best accommodate the needs of the City, Benesch’s master planning process included working with city and county-wide stakeholders to conduct several public workshops. Upon completing the master plan, Benesch guided the city through the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant process. The Kiwanis Family Park was awarded $350,000 from the State of North Carolina for the first phase of park renovations.
