Olympic High School Stadium Improvements

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System | Charlotte, NC

Olympic High School’s stadium had deteriorated over years of use and needed to be upgraded to meet current Charlotte-Mecklenburg School baseline standards. Benesch designed a replacement stadium in addition to various support elements.

The stadium’s facilities were in poor condition and many components required expansions or repairs. All pedestrian facilities were brought up to ADA Standards, including the fieldhouse and plaza. Benesch also ensured all parking areas, emergency vehicle access driveways, sidewalks and utilities were designed to appropriate standards.

Track repairs involved the replacement of the existing six-lane track with a new eight-lane rubber latex surface track. In addition, the football field design utilized an artificial turf in order to mitigate future maintenance costs and water pooling.
