To ensure that the City of La Crosse public facilities (buildings and parks), Public Rights-of-Way, programs, activities and services are readily accessible for persons with disabilities, the City engaged Benesch to conduct a self-evaluation and develop a Transition Plan for compliance with the Americans Disabilities Act (ADA) section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and applicable Wisconsin accessibility codes.

The review included the assessment of facility entrances and exits, parking lots, surrounding accessible routes, curb ramps, crosswalks, pedestrian push buttons, ramps, handrails, doors, drinking fountains, room signage, restrooms, playgrounds and parks. Due to the extensive nature of the project and available funding and resources, Benesch developed a multi-phased work plan, which included public participation in partnership with the City’s Committee for Citizens with Disabilities.
