Chicago Riverwalk Recognized for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement
The Chicago Riverwalk was recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers on Friday, October 6th with an Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. This annual award is given to projects across the country that represent significant contributions to civil engineering progress and innovative design. Several members of Benesch’s structural engineering and construction teams from the Riverwalk project were in attendance at the ceremony.
Fully constructed and opened to the public in the summer of 2017, the Chicago Riverwalk has earned multiple accolades for innovations in engineering and architectural design. Spanning 1.25 miles along the Chicago River, it includes a series of piers and floating wetland gardens, a public lawn, water features and several vendor areas. The $108 million project has dramatically transformed the riverbank into an urban promenade filled with recreational amenities, economic growth potential and improved access to the river.
