Marquette Interchange
The highly traveled Marquette Interchange is a massive freeway structure in downtown Milwaukee that connects multiple interstates and state highways as they weave in and out of the city to the north, west and south. The original interchange, constructed in the 1960s, needed deck replacement and structure widening to accommodate growing traffic demands.
Benesch led construction services for the south leg portion of the project, which involved oversight of the existing valley bridge rehabilitation, concrete pier, deck and parapet construction, and inspection.
As the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) largest construction project at the time, this long-term project construction heavily impacted local businesses, residents, and commuters traveling on this main route. The project required extensive coordination and public involvement efforts to distribute information through multiple channels and minimize impacts to stakeholders.
