Wastewater Treatment Plant Study & Improvements
Unified Government of Wyandotte County | Kansas City, KS
The project included an evaluation of the high-purity oxygen activated sludge secondary treatment system and waste sludge thickening options. The focus of the study was to examine how well the existing treatment process and equipment were functioning under the current plant loading and to make recommendations for changes to improve the operation and reduce costs.
Based on the results of the study, recommendations were made to replace the sixteen activated sludge tank aerators with more efficient units. Two on-site oxygen storage tanks were recommended to accumulate oxygen during periods of low demand to be used during high-demand conditions, thus reducing the peak demand charge from the oxygen supplier.
