Watertown Plank Road
Watertown Plank Road, between Legion Drive and 124th Street in Elm Grove, WI, was in need of major repair due to deterioration and failing infrastructure and needed to be upgraded from rural roadway sections to urban sections. The Village of Elm Grove applied for aid through the Federal Highway Administration and was awarded assistance. The project became part of the Southeast Local Program roster after design.
Benesch led construction engineering efforts for this $1.3 million project, including inspection, documentation and materials testing. Improvements included upgrading rural roadway sections to urban sections, bicycle accommodations, new storm sewers and traffic signal reconfiguration. It also involved staged construction to allow through traffic, realignment of side streets with Watertown Plank Road and contaminated soil handling. In addition, underground storage tanks were found within the DOT right-of-way and required removal.
