SR 386/Indian Lake Boulevard Interchange

Hendersonville, TN

Benesch completed an Interchange Modification Study (IMS) and provided final design and Construction Inspection Engineering (CEI) services for the State Route 386 and Indian Lake Boulevard interchange located in Hendersonville, TN. Administered through the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Local Programs Office, Benesch worked jointly with the City of Hendersonville and TDOT Planning Division throughout the project.

The purpose of the IMS was to develop interchange and local street modifications that would accommodate increased traffic due to area development and increase safety. Project improvements had to fit within existing right-of-way and accommodate existing TVA transmission towers, The Streets of Indian Lake commercial development and other municipal infrastructure such as a park, elementary school and church.

Benesch produced an ultimate interchange design as well as interim improvements for addressing safety and ramp queuing concerns. The new interchange widened Indian Lake Boulevard from two lanes to five. Existing interchange ramps were improved with the southbound entrance ramp to State Route 386 (Vietnam Veterans Boulevard) upgraded to two lanes. Widened bridges and two new traffic signals were also part of the final design.
