As part of the nationwide rental car company consolidation, Hertz Rental wanted to consolidate and modernize the Hertz family of brands at the Denver International Airport (DEN), including the Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty car rental facilities. This required a nine-acre parking lot expansion of the existing Hertz facilities. As part of an on-call civil design contract, DEN tasked Benesch with the expansion design. It involved pavement and drainage improvements, including box culvert design; an environmental assessment; permitting; utility relocation; and extensive coordination with Hertz and the airport’s real estate development group.
