Benesch provided engineering design services for the reconstruction of the apron ramp at Forbes Field near Topeka, KS. The project consisted of rehabilitating 60,000 square yards of apron pavement and two hangars.
The surface of the concrete and asphalt apron was deteriorating badly due to the age of the pavement, creating a hazard to aircraft. Benesch completed design, bidding, and construction administration services to repair the pavement. The repair work involved variable depth milling of the existing pavement with a new one-inch asphalt leveling course and six-inch concrete pavement. The project also included 1,500 linear feet of new storm sewer, as well as sidewalks and parking areas around all three hangars adjacent to the apron.
