The 1,500-acre Schuylkill Highridge Business Park was developed by the Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation. It is located along Interstate Route 81 (I-81) in north-central Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The master plan for the park provides for a mixture of commercial, industrial, and residential uses with over eight million square feet of available industrial building floor space. Access to I-81 is provided by an existing interchange with SR 901 adjacent to the park. A new interchange with SR 4006 (Gordon Road) and I-81 is planned to provide access at the opposite end of the park.

To access the site, a new driveway entrance from SR 901 and a four-lane bifurcated collector road through the park to SR 4006 was planned. Benesch completed an Access Stating Report to identify the various stages of access for the park’s 10-, 20- and 30-year development period.

Benesch’s work included the design and permitting for the high-volume driveway and the design of the two-mile main access road from SR 901 to SR 4006. The road was designed to fit the topography and minimize the impact on natural features. A privately operated and maintained rest area is proposed at the interchange with I-81 and SR 4006 to replace a public rest area that was to be located along I-81 near the business park. The privatized facility will save the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation approximately ten million dollars.

Benesch also designed the 5,000-foot water distribution system and a one-million-gallon water storage tank for the park.
