Wastewater Treatment Plant Capital Improvements

Detroit, MI

Benesch was a key subconsultant to the program management team on this massive Capital Improvement Plan. Ranging in cost from $2.8M to $17M, these projects brought the Department’s plant facilities into full compliance with all applicable permits and agency requirements, including the latest clean air and water acts. Benesch provided project management and engineering design services on 10 projects as part of the overall program.

Continuous operation of the plant’s facilities was required for the duration of the program – including during construction. Benesch and the program management team also provided Wastewater Treatment Plant staff with sufficient training to assume responsibility for any upgrades or maintenance required to keep the facilities in good working condition and in compliance with all applicable permits and agency requirements.

Overall, Benesch’s duties on the contract included procurement administration and monitoring of design/engineering and construction subcontracts; as well as extensive support roles for plant investigation, planning, needs assessment, O&M manual preparation, and construction management.
