Anthony Wayne Drive

Wayne State University | Detroit, MI
roadway

This deteriorating, eight-lane stretch of roadway with two multi-purpose lanes running through the Wayne State University (WSU) campus needed repairs and enhancements. Funded by The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), this project required efficient design solutions and an aggressive schedule.

After topographic and utility surveys identified existing road conditions, traffic signals and utilities, Benesch led this project’s design and construction. In addition to geometric road changes, a new duct bank system was designed to interface with the existing system at both ends of the construction limits, and a new integral curb was added to the existing median, where phased construction played a key role in maintaining steady traffic flows.

Street lighting was also modified from a single cobra head fixture to double-headed decorative fixtures. Photometrics were also performed to verify the fixture quantities and spacing.

The project dramatically enhanced campus and traffic conditions surrounding WSU and was well-received by the traveling public.
